Dave, I am sorry. I love the Ruler of the Universe page ... I really hope I didn't break it. I mean it - this is page is the best. But you see, several weeks ago I discovered that pressing the 'Rule the Universe' button without entering a name caused some odd results and (I'm sorry) I was very amused when it said "No one has ruled the universe since Wed Dec 31 19:00:00 1969 (Eastern)". I also confess that is pisses me off when Brian G. puts his name there. I don't really want to rule but sometimes I don't like who is ruling. Like last night... I had worked all evening on a problem server out west - made a custom exe for it and made the switch. All that was needed was a reboot in the morning. I brought up Outlook and spent half an hour or so writing instructions for the tech, for the morning. When I hit the send button my machine locked. I was furious ... when I rebooted I immediately turned 'Marching to Mars' up full booted the Ruler of the Universe out of office. Then as my rage evaporated I got feeling guilty about leaving the universe without a ruler ... I made 'tor' the ruler. The One Ring. Please, fix your site. I am sorry if I broke something. I didn't hack it, I just hit the 'Rule the Universe' button. Thanks for the pleasure this site has brought to me and many of my friends. This page is priceless. Chris

Dave, for better or worse, I indirectly brought this formerly quiet and peaceful site to its knees in January of 2003. For a couple of years before that, as you may recall, it had become mainly a tussle for supremacy between Diva, Sodabum, and a few aliases from time to time (Scroffulous...Tin Can...Taco Slinger...Jason...). That all changed, thanks to me. I was an avid fan of Screensavers at the time, and one night co-hosts Megan and Leo were talking about some type of online game where the participants competed for the title of Ruler of the Universe. I went to Megan's jumpingmonkeys.com site, where she used to maintain a blog, and made the mistake of leaving a post, telling her that there was an easier way to rule the universe...then I posted your URL and described how simple it was to take over the universe by coming here. Several days later, your site was featured as the site of the night on Screensavers. It was almost impossible to get into, the access counter on the page went crazy, and it was quickly hacked as well. "Diva" sent me a "The Universe has been hacked" email that night, I felt so guilty. Something good did come out of it. The two of us swapped more and more emails, this former "adversary" turned out to be a very aspiring and talented poet (though she's actually in the healthcare profession). I've since helped her put together a couple of limited edition CDs, a disc of her poetry readings called "Eclectic" and an audiobook reading of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." A second poetry CD has been in the works, off and on, for the past year and a half, and may finally reach completion in the months to come...and it all started with this humble little site. Who says all things don't have a purpose?
